Shifting from RS232 to USB

Today most of the people are shifting from RS232 to USB in the area of telecommunication. There are many factors which are responsible for this shift in choice. Before discussing those factors let us have a brief introduction to RS232. RS232 is a standard which is used for data signals which are binary in nature.
RS232 is most commonly used in serial ports present in computer.  Now if we consider USB which is used to transfer data to computer from devices like cell phones, cameras and many others. If we think of them individually we would not be able to find the similarities between them. However if we study them together then we will find that USB can become a better substitute for RS232.
The features of USB that persuades one to shift from RS232 to USB are:
More speed of USB in transmitting data.
Requires low voltage in comparison to RS232
Easy connectivity and installation
With USB device drivers can communicate easily with hardware.
Along with these advantages there are a few problems associated with USB cables which are not present in RS232. Let us have a look on that as well. First of all the software involved with USB is quite complex with respect to software present in RS232. In USB there are no programs available that let user to have a direct interaction with serial ports.
Keeping in mind the advantages offered by USB, one can readily make a move from RS232 to USB.
